Kiran Kang’s first initial contemplation on:

Sanctuary

The first thing I think about when I see this sanctuary art piece is ESCAPISM.

The woman in the picture is coloured all black which makes me think about our “shadow self”. We all have a shadow self – whether that is moments of anxiety, sadness and depression. I relate my shadow self to the dark voice in my head when life gets too much; the days where you look in the mirror and stare at your reflection thinking “is this really me.. is this the person I want to be”.

But your shadow self is a blessing in disguise because although you feel as though your soul is burned black, it’s times like this when you go to your place of “sanctuary” and search for that inner peace or bright light.

I see a strong woman who wants to change, who wants excitement and wants to feel the ocean breeze on her face.

There is a slight colour to this art piece and I think that conveys the woman sitting in the picture imagining or manifesting the light she wants to see in her life. I feel as though she is in a state of meditation and the shape in front of her is her inner demon. It’s almost as if the bright colours want to get brighter… want to slowly close in on her demon because she wants better and she knows she deserves better. She wants to escape her reality for a while, she wants light, passion and endless amounts of joy.

SHE WANTS AN ETERNAL FEELING OF SANCTUARY.
